Theological Education by Extension ( TEE )

Rev.Winterle, a Brazilian mission Pastor based in South Africa, is the coordinator of the Theological Education by Extension Courses being offered in Mozambique and Angola through the Seminary in Brazil.

August/Sept 2013 was the fourth stage of the TEE program, which began in 2010. The 8 candidates are already recognized as pastors by their communities, but as they are not ordained, they cannot baptize and offer the Lord’s Supper. They lead the local worship services and preach. They teach and prepare the people in their churches for Holy Baptism. They visit the sick, perform funerals and do God’s mission.

The Kapasseni project raises funds to help these students as they study and serve their churches. A small monthly honorariums given to each student so they can have enough food to eat, help with transportation costs to attend their monthly training meetings, rental space for the meetings and a place for them to stay overnight. These basic needs are covered with your generous donations as well as the yearly in country costs for training.

After five years of training sessions, in July 2014 the eight candidates received Certificates as Deacons, delivered by the Seminário Concórdia, Brazil, in charge of the TEE program. They are now allowed to perform baptisms as well as the duties they are already doing regularly: leading services, teaching and preaching, and pastoral care. After an intensive training session next year in July/August 2015, they will be ordained as Pastors. The eight candidates are waiting  eagerly for their ordination in the Holy ministry. Each Deacon received 10 Bibles in the Sena language to give to the leaders of their churches, especially to the new candidates, who will begin the TEE program next year. 20 candidates are enrolled so far.

August 9,2015 celebrated the Graduation and Ordination service of the 8 Candidates.  The mission of the Kapasseni Project Committee is complete.

The mission work continues through the support of the Evangelical Lutheran Church of Brazil –IELB; the Lutheran Church Missouri Synod – World Mission – LCMS WM; and the Free Evangelical Lutheran Synod in South Africa – FELSISA and the Mission of the Lutheran Church – MLC, Blekmarer Mission, Germany. Canadian support can continue through donations to your local churches and sending directly to the Concordia Lutheran Church of Mozambique.
